Hunter Region Indigenous Pre-Employment Program

Looking for a career in the construction industry? Don’t miss this pre-employment training opportunity!

This unique fee-free pre-employment program, delivered in partnership with Yalagan Registered Training, has been designed to meet the Hunter Region’s need for entry-level construction support staff. The program will deliver a skill set from the Certificate III in Civil Construction, three soft skill workshops and is supported by the Barranggirra Mentoring Program.

Successful participants will be offered full-time roles on one of the following projects - M1 Pacific Motorway extension (Black Hill to Tomago Southern Package), M1 Pacific Motorway extension (Heatherbrae Bypass Northern Package) and Hexham Straight Widening Project.

Information and Assessment Day:

Thursday 11 April 2024, 2pm at Hexham Straight Widening Alliance Project, 10 Old Maitland Road, Sandgate NSW 2304. Individuals will participate in a series of interviews and activities on the day.

About the training

Yalagan Registered Training (RTO ID: 91627) will deliver this training and is known around Australia as simply YRT. They are a leading Supply Nation Certified Indigenous led Registered Training Organisation.

  • Completion date: 17 May 2024 (3 weeks)

  • Times: 8.45am to 3:00pm

  • Delivery: Face to Face

  • Venue: On site at the three projects which are located at Tarro, Heatherbrae and Sandgate.

Units of study

The course consists of the following units of competency:

  • RIIWHS201E - Work safely & follow WHS policies & procedures

  • CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

  • RIICCM201E - Carry out measurements and calculations

  • RIICOM201E - Communicate in the workplace

  • RIISAM204E - Operate small plant and equipment

  • RIISAM202E - Isolate and access plant

Am I eligible?

Applicants MUST have a current driver’s licence and mode of transport to be considered. Applicants must also be able to pass a drug, alcohol and medical assessment.

You may be eligible for this fee-free training if you:

  • are 15 years old or over

  • identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

  • no longer at school

  • living or working in NSW

  • an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.
